Wondering what to do with your left over dosa / Idli batter ? Then try appe for a change.This is loved by both kids and adults equally. You can prepare this appe with the regular idli or dosa batter. You can have this as a tea time snack, can pack this in your kids snack box and also pack it for your mid day snack in your office.
INGREDIENTS
Appe batter:
- Rice – 4 cups
- Urad Daal – 1 cup
- Salt as per taste
- Spinach pure – 1/2 cups
- Fresh mint & curry leaves chopped – 1/2 cup
- Ginger paste – 1 tsp
- Lime juice – 1 tsp
- Salt as per taste
- Green chilly finely chopped– 4 to 5
- Baking soda – 1 tsp
Tempering:
- Oil – 2 tablespoon
- Sesame seeds – 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Asafoetida – 1 pinch
- Curry leaves – 6-7 leaves
- Green chilly chopped – 2
- Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
INSTRUCTIONS
- In 2 separate bowls take rice and urad daal and soak it with water overnight.
- Drain the water and grind both together and let it ferment for 3-4 hours.
- Now add baking soda , spinach , chillies , ginger paste, curry leaves chopped , lime juice , salt , grated coconut and 1/4 cup of water to the batter and mix it nicely.
- Grease the appe plate with oil and pour the batter in to the appe tray cook for 2mins on both sides.
- For tempering take oil in a pan, add sesame seeds, mustard seeds , cumin seeds,asafoetida , green chillies and curry leaves once the oil is hot.
- Pour it over the appe , sprinkle red chilly powder and mix well.
Serve it hot with Sambhar or coconut chutney.
