Bengali Cholar Daal

Cholar daal is packed with proteins and the easiest daal to make. It hardly takes any time and tastes amazing. Its one of the comfort food for me. Its a Bengali dish I hope you like it.


  1. Chana Daal – 1 cup
  2. Dry coconut shopped – 3 to 4 pieces
  3. Jeera – 1 teaspoon
  4. Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon
  5. Salt – as per taste
  6. Jaggery – 2 tablespoon
  7. Cinamon pieces – 2
  8. Green chilly – 2
  9. Star anise – 2
  10. Dry red chilly  Р2
  11. Hing – 1/2 teaspoon
  12. Oil – 2 tablespoon


  1. Add Chana daal , jaggery, salt and turmeric in pressure cooker and cook it for 4 whistles.
  2. Now for tempering heat oil and add mustard seeds, jeera, red chilly, green chilly, star anise, dry coconut, cinnamon and hing.
  3. Add it to the daal and mix well.

Bengali’s prefer to have it with Luchi / Puri . It also tastes good with steam rice.
